Caregiving Services & Elder Care Services
Q: How do you select your homemakers/companions?
All of our companions are carefully interviewed and screened prior to working for Your Home Companion. Please see the Our Companions page for more detailed information.
Q: How long does it take to get a companion/homemaker?
First we must meet with you for an in-home consultation to determine what your loved ones needs are. We will meet with you for an initial consultation. Once we know what your loved one’s needs are and what types are services you would like, we can then place a companion within a very short period of time.
Q: What if my homemaker is sick or goes on vacation?
We have a continuous supply of excellent, caring homemakers that are ready on a moment’s notice in case of sickness or emergency. We certainly receive advanced notice of any vacation requests, so that is not usually an issue.
Q: Can I meet the homemaker/companion in advance?
Always. Your Home Companion strives to match all of it’s companion’s with with the personality of your loved one. We discuss this during the in-home care consultation so we can plan ahead on selecting the right caregiver.
Q: Do I pay the homemaker?
No, you do not. We make it easy for you, Your Home Companion will invoice you for the services rendered and we in turn pay the companion.
Q: What is respite care?
Respite literally means a period of rest or relief. According to Answers.com, “respite care is often referred to as a gift of time.” Our services offer family members relief by providing driving services to and from doctor’s appointments, going grocery shopping, pet care, meal preparation and so much more.
Q: Who needs in-home caregiving services ?
Anyone (adults, elderly, mentally/physically handicapped) who needs additional help with their daily living activities and want to remain living at home independently rather than be institutionalized or live with relatives. Or respite care for a family caregiver who needs time off from their care giving responsibilities. Some of our clients include those suffering from Alzheimer’s/Dementia, Parkinson’s, Cancer, Arthritis, Macular Degeneration, Diabetes and Multiple Sclerosis. Some of our Clients just suffer from loneliness and need human contact.
Q: What is “Caregiver Burnout”?
“Caregiver burnout is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that may be accompanied by a change in attitude — from positive and caring to negative and unconcerned. Burnout can occur when caregivers don’t get the help they need, or if they try to do more than they are able — either physically or financially. Caregivers who are “burned out” may experience fatigue, stress, anxiety, and depression. Many caregivers also feel guilty if they spend time on themselves rather than on their ill or elderly loved ones.” (excerpt taken from WebMD)
This is where Your Home Companion steps in. We offer the family caregiver relief (also known as respite care) from their caregiving responsibilities, so that they may have time for themselves. We help family caregivers so they do not have to go through “Caregiver Burnout.” Our Companions do this by offering services such as meal preparation and light housekeeping.
